Kim Kardashian Divorce: Kris Humphries Hires Lawyer to Proceed With Split
Basketball star Kris Humphiers has hired a lawyer to proceed with his divorce from reality television star and socialite Kim Kardashian, who filed for the split in late October after only 72 days of marriage.
Various media sources are reporting that Humphries will use his Minnesota attorney Lee Hutton to handle the proceedings, and, according to TMZ, there are no conflicts over how the couple's assets will be divided, as Kardashian and Humphries signed a pre-nuptial agreement.
Although rumors have circulated that Humphries is refusing to sign divorce papers, a source told E! the rumors are false, saying, "It is not true that Kris is not going to sign the divorce papers. He's sad. He doesn't want a war. He's laying low."
After a six-month courtship, Humphries proposed to Kardashian on her family's well-known reality show, "Keeping Up with the Kardashians," and the couple was married shortly after in a lavish ceremony that reportedly cost $20 million. Throughout the courtship, proposal and wedding, which was broadcast as a two-part special on the E! channel, there was speculation that the relationship was a ploy by the show's executives to keep the show current and to improve ratings. In the months leading up to and following the wedding, it became apparent that trouble was brewing in the relationship, as both Kardashian and Humphries were spotted often apart and without their wedding rings.
In a statement, Kardashian said she had experienced doubts about the marriage before the wedding, but she felt trapped.
"I felt like I was on a fast roller coaster and couldn't get off when now I know I probably should have," she said in the statement on her website. "I got caught up with the hoopla and the filming of the TV show that when I probably should have ended my relationship, I didn't know how to and didn't want to disappoint a lot of people."
The NBA star's father slammed Kardashian for publicly filing for divorce before talking with Humphries first.
"There was never a discussion about it; it just came out of nowhere and blindsided Kris," he told Life & Style magazine. "How could someone do that? Kris was completely surprised. The news was already published before he found out!"
