Kim Kardashian Placed on Australia's Immigration Watch List
The Australian Immigration Department is reportedly “keeping up” with reality television star Kim Kardashian.
According to various media sources, the socialite has been placed on Australia's immigration watch list for breaching her visa conditions three times during her visits since 2007.
Her latest visit last month, which was highly publicized in the wake of her split from husband Kris Humphries, had immigration department officials raising eyebrows because she held a tourist visa but was really there to work, making in-store appearances to promote the launch of her new handbag collection.
A further investigation into the star's last two visits showed that they were also business-related.
The Herald Sun of Australia reported that although the immigration department declined to comment specifically on Kardashian, they released a statement revealing what action is typically taken against people who breach the country’s visa conditions.
"If people are undertaking work in Australia, they need to be on an appropriate visa with work conditions attached to it," said the department. "If people do breach conditions, then the department can counsel them or cancel that person's visa ... and the department may record their breaches and immigration history. Their history would be taken into account if they apply for another visa to enter Australia."
Kardashian flew to Australia with her sister Khloe just days after announcing her divorce, but cut the trip short for reportedly being too distraught over the split to work. She was set to rake in $150,000 to make a one-hour appearance at Melbourne's annual spring carnival, but pulled out at the last minute and flew back to L.A.
The socialite has vehemently denied rumors that the marriage was a publicity stunt for her reality show.
"I married for love," she said in a statement. "I can’t believe I even have to defend this. I would not have spent so much time on something just for a TV show! I share so much of my life on a reality show, that contemplating whether to even film my wedding was a tough decision to make, and maybe it turned out to not be the smartest decision. But it’s who I am!"
