Kristen Bell Proposes to Dax Shepherd on Twitter After DOMA Ruling

Kristen Bell is keeping her promise that she and fiancé Dax Shepherd would marry as soon as same-sex marriage was passed California. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of same-sex marriage Wednesday, denying an appeal to hear the Proposition 8 case.

Just hours later, Bell took to Twitter and proposed to Dax, who is already the father of her child.

"@daxshepherd1 will you marry me? Xo #marriageequality #loveislove," wrote the actress.

Shepherd, also an actor, has not posted a reply to his fiancée. However, the "Parenthood" star did mention marriage on Twitter Wednesday.

"DOMA is dead," started the actor. "Prop 8 is dead. Now let's bring my big, gay marriage to @IMKristenBell to Life!!!!"

Bell and Shepherd got engaged in 2009 after two years of dating, and on March 28, they welcomed their daughter Lincoln into the world.

Despite starting a family, the "Hit and Run" co-stars spoke out about refusing to tie the knot just yet while on "Larry King Now" last summer.

"Once it's official and everybody stops appealing it, the moment before it passes, we'll get married," said Bell speaking to King alongside her fiancé.

Shepherd noted that having children out of wedlock did not concern him.

"It doesn't really bother us," agreed Bell on the late night talk show.

"We'll apply the appropriate paperwork for wills and security and such, but when he gave [the ring] to me… that meant more to me than proclaiming it in front of a group of people," the actress added. "That doesn't feel very significant to me. The moment that we shared when he proposed felt like an agreement."
