'Veronica Mars' Movie to Film This Summer After Raising $2.5 Million

Fans of "Veronica Mars" will be thrilled to know that the money they donated as part of a Kickstarter campaign has paid off. A new "Mars" movie will soon be produced and released to the public.

The show, which featured Kristen Bell, had a huge following during the three years it was on TV. Bell played the title character, Veronica Mars, who was an investigator looking to solve the murder of her best friend and various mysteries in her small town. The series helped launch Bell's career and catapult her to fame.

Yesterday Bell took to Kickstarter to help launch a campaign to raise the funds needed to produce the movie. Creator Robb Thomas said that the company needed $2 million in 30 days in order to guarantee the movie would start filming this summer; it took approximately 24 hours to get that amount.

"Life has taken Veronica away from Neptune," Thomas wrote on the Kickstarter page. "In the years since spoiling Keith's chances to be reelected sheriff, Veronica hasn't taken a case. But something big is about to bring her back home and back to her calling."

"My goal is to include as many of your favorite characters as possible. It is, after all, time for Veronica's 10-year high school reunion. Keep in mind that the more money we raise, the cooler movie we can make," Thomas added.

Fans immediately began flooding the site with their donations and within 24 hours, the financial goal was met. As of press time, over $2.5 million had been donated, and there are still 29 days left in the campaign. It will be amazing to see just how much fans are willing to donate to the movie.

There are good incentives for fans to continue donating, according to MTV. If one donates $10, he or she will receive a PDF version of the movie's script. For $750, one can receive tickets to the Los Angeles movie premiere. One person reportedly gave $10,000 to have a speaking role in the film.

The movie will begin filming this summer and is expected to be released in 2014.
