Lady Gaga Vows to Conquer Bullying Following Fan's Suicide
Singer Lady Gaga has made a firm vow against bullying after the tragic suicide of one of her fans.
Gaga took to her Twitter account to state her cause, writing: “Jamey Rodemeyer, 14 yrs old, took his life because of bullying, bullying must become be illegal. It is a hate crime.”
Jamey Rodemeyer took his own life September 18 after long-suffering from bullying. A Lady Gaga fan, his final Twitter post revealed a farewell to the singer, who refers to her fans as “little monsters.”

Rodemeyer wrote on his Twitter account, “bye mother monster, thank you for all you have done, paws up forever.”
“I am meeting with our President. I will not stop fighting,” wrote Gaga on Twitter. “This must end. Our generation has the power to end it. Trend it.”
Gaga appeared at an Obama fundraiser event Sunday night, but it is unclear if Gaga was able to discuss her concerns with the president or if they plan on meeting to talk about anti-bullying policies.
The $35,000-a-person event took place in Silicon Valley in the backyard belonging to the chief operating officer of Facebook, Cheryl Sandberg.
The news of her fan’s suicide struck a chord with the singer, who also wrote on Twitter: “The past days I’ve spent reflecting, crying, and yelling. I have so much anger. It is hard to feel love when cruelty takes someones life.”
During a performance in Las Vegas Saturday, Gaga dedicated a song in his honor. Addressing the audience before the dedication, Gaga said, “I wanted to take a minute, because I don’t know if any of you know this, but we lost a little monster.”
“Jamey, I know you’re up there looking down on us. And you’re not a victim,” Gaga said before performing her new single, “Hair.”
“You’re a lesson to all of us. So tonight, I know it’s a bit of a downer, but sometimes the right thing’s more important than the music, isn’t it? Let’s do this for him – for Jamey.”
Lady Gaga has the most followers on Twitter with over 13.9 million. She has more than both Justin Bieber, who ranks second with 12.9 million followers on the social media site, and President Barack Obama, ranks third, with 10.2 million followers.
