Lindsay Lohan's Rehab is Working- Actress Skips Venice Film Festival

Lindsay Lohan is not attending the Venice Film Festival this year in order to avoid the temptations of drugs and alcohol that comes with the celebration.

The 70th annual Venice Film Festival kicked off on Wednesday, Aug. 28 and will run through Sept. 7, and although Lohan's latest film "Canyons" is playing there, the actress is keeping her distance.

Last month, the 27-year-old completed a 90-day court-ordered rehab stint for an addiction to Adderall.

Lohan's absence from the event marks her determination to stay clean, and the actress' decision not to attend may have been per Oprah Winfrey's suggestion.

In her first post-rehab interview, Lohan admitted her drug use and desire to recover to Winfrey, who responded with sage advice.

"At the end of the interview, I said to her, look, I have some concerns 'cause I hear you're going to Europe, and I just came from Europe and Europe is the place to go when you want to feel really good and relax. It's very hard to go to Capri and not have a Bellini," Winfrey joked.

"And then I just heard this morning she's decided not to go," she continued of Lohan. "Isn't that good, that she's decided to stay here and work on herself. I'm so proud of her for that decision."

The television mogul also noted the great impression Lohan left during the interview.

"I thought that she's in the best place that I've ever seen her," Winfrey said while on "Good Morning America" in July.

"I believe that she believes that she is now ready [to fully recover,]" the 59-year-old added. "And she admitted that there were other times when she was pretending to be ready and not quite sure. And sometimes resentful that she was being, you know, put in a position where she had to go to rehab. I think this is the first time I could see it really benefitted her."

Meanwhile, "Canyons" director Paul Schrader spoke to members of the press during the Venice Film Festival on Friday when he openly discussed working with the formerly troubled actress.

"Today I am free," said Schrader, according to statements translated from Italian via Us Weekly. "In the past 16 months, I have been hostage to Lindsay Lohan. She is a great actress, she should be here, but her behavior is unspeakable."
