LL Cool J Stops Home Intruder; Fans, Celebrity Friends React

LL Cool J released his album "Mama Said Knock You Out" over 20 years ago, but he may have come close to doing just that when an intruder attempted to burglarize the entertainer's home on Wednesday.

LL Cool J, 44-year-old rapper and actor born James Todd Smith, reportedly took down a burglar in his Los Angeles home at 2 a.m. on Wednesday. According to TMZ, Smith heard noises in the downstairs portion of his home in the wee hours of the morning.

After the "NCIS Los Angeles" star decided to check on the commotion, he reportedly encountered a male intruder whom he engaged in hand-to-hand combat. Although the LAPD later arrived on the scene, Smith was able to detain the perpetrator until they arrived.

Some people took to Twitter to react to the news after Smith made headlines for detaining the criminal. Russell Simmons, founder of the Def Jam record label who worked with Smith at the beginning of his career, took to the social networking website to show concern for his friend.

"@UncleRUSH: I hope my man LL Cool J is OK," the business mogul tweeted. "Glad his family is safe."

Rapper Killer Mike also commented on the incident involving Smith.

"COOL J DON'T PLAY," the rapper tweeted.

Smith recently sat down with EurWeb.com to reveal that he completed an authentic hip-hop album this summer that he plans to release next year. However, the rapper said he doesn't feel pressure to compete with younger artists.

"I think people have to understand that there's two audiences...I made an album for LL Cool J fans," the rapper said. "I made an album for my audience, my generation of people who want to hear hip-hop from me. I don't have those pressures because I'm not going to compete with somebody that made their second album last year."
