Madonna Admits to Being 'Tortured and Misunderstood' While Growing Up

Madonna recently opened her personal side in an interview revealing her teens and early 20s were a “tortured" and "misunderstood" period in her life.

The singer recently did an interview with Harper's Bazaar in promotion of her new film "W.E."

"The boys in my school would make fun of me," said the pop star. "[I was called] 'hairy monster.' You know things like that."

Madonna mentioned finding acceptance in gay bars.

“Straight men did not find me attractive," she said. "I think they were scared of me because I was different. I've always asked, 'Why? Why do I have to do that? Why do I have to look this way? Why do I have to dress this way? Why do I have to behave this way?'"

The Material Girl is currently dating French break-dancer Brahim Zaibat, who is much younger than she is. Madonna strongly said, however, that she likes the relationship aspect of their fling, but she is not looking for a lover.

Madonna feels the term lover refers to only a sexual relationship with someone.

"I aspire more than that, and I need more than that," she said in the interview.

Madonna said she is looking for someone to share her “inner life.”

“That's extremely important. It's also important that my children admire and respect this partner that I would choose for myself," the musician explained. "Respect for women and understanding that everything must be earned. Those are two big ones."

The singer recently had two upcoming unreleased songs from her new album leaked online.

Madonna is reportedly very upset about the leaked track "Love Is On Fire” featuring Nicki Minaj and M.I.A.

The other leaked track was "Dirty Liar."
