Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones Reunite, Wear Wedding Rings
Michael Douglas and his estranged wife Catherine Zeta-Jones stepped out together for the first time since announcing their separation four months ago.
The pair was married for 13 years before announcing their split in a joint statement on Aug. 28th.
However, both Douglas and Zeta-Jones were wearing their wedding bands and walking together in New York City on Dec. 22, according to Mail Online.
The 69-year-old actor was photographed walking just behind his 44-year-old wife during what appeared to be a last minute Christmas shopping outing. Their children, 13-year-old Dylan and 10-year-old Carys, were also in attendance.
Following the announcement of their split, Douglas has been very outspoken about his optimism and determination to make his marriage to Zeta-Jones work.
"Things are great," said the actor in Las Vegas during a promotional event for his new movie "Las Vegas" in November, according to People.
"Onward and upward," Douglas added.
Alternately, Zeta-Jones also continued to wear her wedding ring, and neither actor ever filed for a divorce.
"They're taking a break," said a source close to the couple at the time of the split, while another explained that "stress has taken a toll on their marriage," according to People.
The couple's statement confirmed that Douglas and Zeta-Jones are "taking some time apart to evaluate and work on their marriage."
However, the couple are said to be working things out today.
"Michael's asked Catherine to give things another try and she's agreed. It's not just for the sake of the children," a source told The Sun U.K. adding, "When they're good they're amazing together, so they're hammering out their issues at their home."
Furthermore, Douglas assured Entertainment Tonight's Nancy O'Dell that "everything is fine" back in October.
"Nothing really more to say," added the actor. "We were just taking a little break. We're talking. I think everything will be fine, and I'm very hopeful."
Also, in early December, Douglas was reportedly so keen on keeping his marriage to Zeta-Jones alive that he was regularly making her favorite morning dish- pancakes.
"When he's in New York, he makes the kids breakfast and comes back in the evening to watch TV with them before bedtime," the insider said, according to the U.K.'s Mirror. "Then he gets his marching orders from his wife and returns to sleep at this own place in Manhattan."
"It's very sweet when he turns up at the apartment to cook for them because he so desperately wants to be back as a part of the family's life," the insider continued. "Catherine thinks it's really touching he's being so hands-on with the kids- and he's praying it's the key back into her heart."
