Michael Jackson Continues to Entertain With New Cirque du Soleil 'Immortal Tour'
The music of Michael Jackson is joining the ranks of popular music performance show, Cirque du Soleil with The Immortal World Tour making its debut Oct. 2 in Montreal, Canada.
Members of the Jackson family were present to see the start of the show off as well as 13,000 other audience members in the Bella Centre.
In the biggest sanctioned project by the Jackson family since Michael's death, The Immortal World Tour will travel across 47 North American cities kicking off the U.S. leg on Oct. 15 in Detroit.
The show will include a one month stay at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas during December. In 2013 a revamped version of the show will make Vegas its steady residence.
Although more shows may be added, it is scheduled to end on July 20 in Chicago.
The show will feature some of Jackson's most popular songs beginning with some of the hits from the Jackson 5 era.
A live band will be playing the tunes as mixed vocals from studio tapes will be providing Jackson's voice.
Immortal will also feature many of Jackson's signature dance moves as Cirque du Soleil brought in his long time associate, choreographer Travis Payne. Another member of the show close to Jackson was his keyboardist Greg Phillinganes who will be directing the band.
Jackson's spirit was seen and felt throughout the show as pictures of him adorned the stage at various moments.
The show did not follow a particular story line, though it featured the most prominent musical moments of Jackson's life.
Some of the main audience wowing features included a recreation of the "Giving Tree," a place Jackson went for inspiration, a big replica of his famous white gloves and shoes dancing during "Beat It," and various claws and monsters crawling out for "Thriller."
Three of Michael's brothers were present – Tito, Jackie, and Marlon. The show had their approval with Jackie according to USA Today saying "Our mother is probably bawling out there somewhere."
In the show's first 24 hours it sold $40M worth of tickets.
