Michelle Obama Dress Knock Off: Election Night Dress Remade for Less (PHOTO)
Michelle Obama's election night dress has been remade into a new, affordable look for the holidays.
While President Obama was busy giving a speech, it appears that his wife was busy wowing a crowd of fashionistas who were eagerly admiring her Michael Kors dress. But it was not the first time the first lady had put the dress on display.
The dress made its first appearance in 2009 during a holiday party. The second appearance came in November 2010, when Michelle wore the dress while at a Medal of Honor presentation ceremony. But Obama's recycled fashion didn't fail to inspire, it appears.
Last week, British retailer Asda unveiled the newest line of holiday dresses under the George Brand. The first one to sell out was the "Michelle," a copy cat version of the same dress that the first lady wore on election night. While Kors fans estimated that the original dress was worth around $500, or possibly less, the new copy cat was much more affordable at only $32.
Unfortunately, for those fashion snappers eager to get their own black and red, metallic styled dress, it is too late. According to reports, the dress sold out in less than 48 hours.
"Our Michelle Obama inspired flower jacquard dress was an instant hit amongst shoppers," George brand director Fiona Lambert told The Daily Mail.
The dress was made by designers George and Asda after it was determined that shoppers felt Michelle Obama was the number one female fashion drive over Gwyneth Paltrow and Victoria Beckham.
"'The Impress Dress collection has been flying off the shelves this week," Lambert said. "We're urging women to get their hands on their favorite before we sell through completely."
Some, however, were left perplexed and stated that the copy cat dress looked nothing like the Kors dress that Obama sported on election night.
