'Middle-Earth: Shadow of War' Dominates Sales Charts in Australia, New Zealand

"Middle-Earth: Shadow of War" stomped its class in Australia and New Zealand by casting a dominating shadow in the latest sales charts.

According to the latest games sales charts published by the Interactive Games & Entertainment Association (IGEA) this week, the action role-playing game published by Warner Bros. Interactive led the list of the top 10 best-selling games for Week Ending Oct. 15. The game took the top spot in both countries across all gaming platforms.

Gamespot noted that "Shadow of War's" chart dominance does not come as a big surprise. The game is based on the famous "Lord of the Rings" franchise where the film, particularly the place called Middle-Earth, was shot in New Zealand.

In Australia, "FIFA 18" from Electronic Arts took the second spot followed by "The Evil Within 2" from Bethesda at third place. Meanwhile, two games from 2K Sports followed with "NBA 2K18" and "WWE 2K18" taking the fourth and fifth spots in the charts, respectively.

Microsoft's "Forza Motorsport 7" secured the sixth spot while "Grand Theft Auto V" from Rockstar Games settled for seventh. Rounding out the top 10 games in Australia are Blizzard's "Destiny 2," "Crash Bandicoot: N.Sane Trilogy," and Ubisoft's "Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands" at the eighth, ninth, and 10th spots, respectively.

For the top 10 games in New Zealand, "FIFA 18" also trailed "Shadow of War" at second place while "NBA 2K18" ended at third. Flowing at fourth was "Destiny 2" as "WWE 2K18" mirrored its Australian ranking at fifth. "Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy" and "Grand Theft Auto V" ended up in sixth and seventh, respectively, while "Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare" barged in at number eight.

"The Evil Within 2" and "Assassin's Creed The Ezio Trilogy" completed New Zealand's top 10 best-selling games.

A GameZone report noted, however, that the charts only reflect the physical game sales for both countries. This means digital sales and purchases were not counted in the results.
