Mike Huckabee to Keynote 'Jerusalem Banquet' in New York
Former Arkansas governor and Israeli advocate Mike Huckabee has been announced as the keynote speaker at this year's Jerusalem Banquet; the annual gathering of Christians and Jewish leaders in New York City.
Mike Huckabee was chosen to give the keynote address at this year's gathering due to his consistent support of Israel and for his experience related to national and international affairs.
He served as Governor of Arkansas from 1996-2007. He was also in the race for the presidential nomination in 2008 and is the current host of "Huckabee" on the Fox News Network.
Eagles' Wings Executive Director and founder Dr. Robert Stearns has stated that the situation in the Middle East is escalating, making this year's event all the more important.
"The mounting crisis in the Middle East makes this the most important Jerusalem Banquet we have ever hosted," said Stearns, who is an expert on Israel-Christian relations.
"A nuclear Iran poses a threat not only to Israel, but also to the United States. When combined with the tragic civil war in Syria and the increasing instability of the Middle East, the need for an informed response by America's Christian leaders has never been more pressing," Stearns insisted.
Eagles' Wings is a global mission community based in upstate New York with a network of supporters in Germany and Jerusalem.
It was founded in the early 1990's by Robert Stearns for the purpose of developing faithful connections between Judaism and Christianity.
This was spurred on from the time he spent in Jerusalem where he was able to gain a new perspective regarding ancient Judaism, which he related to his own personal experience.
With the help of his friend and mentor, Pastor Tommy Reid, Sterns was able to host Eagles Wings' first East Coast Leadership Conference in 1994. Since then Eagles Wings has been able to touch the lives of countless people all the while sharing God's grace.
Attending the event this year will be leading American evangelical pastors. Others expected to speak at this year's event include Ambassador Ido Aharoni, Consul General of Israel; Dr. Michael Little, president of the Christian Broadcasting Network; Mr. Steve Strang, president of Charisma Media and leading experts on Middle Eastern affairs.
The Jerusalem Banquet begins with a gala event on Thursday, May 17.
