Mike Johnson is a member of the Southern Baptist Convention and served as a trustee of the SBC’s Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission from 2004-2012, according to the Baptist Press.

Pastor John Fream, who leads Cypress Baptist Church of Benton, Louisiana, where Johnson is a member, told BP that “Mike is the real deal, and God’s hand is all over him and his family.”

“I am so excited and hopeful for our nation with this great man of God leading. Mike loves his church, his country, his family and his Lord,” Fream added.

SBC President Brent Leatherwood said in a statement to BP that Johnson was “a name familiar to many Southern Baptists” and he wanted “to offer my personal congratulations to him.”
