Miley Cyrus Defends Outburst at Fan
Miley Cyrus, also known as “Hannah Montana” has issued a statement defending her actions while dealing with a confrontational fan in Costa Rica.
The 19-year-old star was vacationing in Costa Rica with boyfriend Liam Hemsworth when a group of fans approached Cyrus for pictures and autographs. According to reports, Cyrus obliged but then needed to leave. As she left, one fan, apparently upset about Cyrus’ lack of time, hurled an obscenity at the star.
Cyrus responded with another obscenity before leaving. Now Cyrus has taken to Twitter to explain her behavior. As she writes, “been trying not to tweet & just enjoy the holidays but just to clear something up, I would never swear to a fan.”
She continues, “When someone yells something so rude…I can’t tolerate that kind of rudeness. Every1 (sic) who was there apologized 4 (sic) the woman’s brusque behavior. She obviously wasn’t a fan. Hope every1 (sic) has a Merry Christmas!”
This is not the first controversial situation the star has been in recently. In late 2010, media website TMZ released a video of Cyrus smoking from a bong, though she claimed it was not marijuana but salvia divinorum, a legal plant that can induce hallucinations.
Earlier this year, Cyrus turned 19 and was presented with a Bob Marley cake. She responded by saying, “You know you’re a stoner when your friends make you a Bob Marley cake. You know you smoke way too much…weed.”
It’s an interesting series of events for a girl baptized into, and raised in, a Southern Baptist Church. At the beginning of her career, Cyrus could be seen wearing a purity ring, which is a symbol of abstaining from sexual relations before marriage but can also include a multitude of abstentions.
Cyrus once said in an interview, “Even at my age, a lot of girls are starting to fall, and I think if [abstaining] is a commitment girls make, that’s great.”
