Miley Cyrus Offers Sex Advice Despite Bad 'Role Model' Criticisms

Miley Cyrus recently opened up about sex and why having open discussions about the subject can prevent young women from making poor choices.

The 19-year-old sat down for an appearance on Lifetime's "The Conversation With Amanda de Cadenet" on Thursday and said that kids should be taught that sex is a "beautiful thing."

"Girls who base how much they're worth on the sexual favors they can do for somebody, that makes me really sad. Because sex is actually really beautiful," Cyrus said.

"It's the only way that we create and it's the only way that the world keep going. It's ignorant to not talk to your kids about it or make it seem like it's not as cool or magical as it actually is. If [kids] have a TV, they know what sex is. Everyone knows, so educate them," she added.

Cyrus, who has been romantically linked to actor Liam Hemsworth, 22, since 2009, reiterated the importance of young girls not to equate their self worth with having sex.

"Let them know that they wouldn't be here without it, and it is a beautiful thing, and it is magic, and it is when you connect with somebody and it isn't how much your worth. Your worth isn't based on that. Your worth is based on how you feel about yourself," she said.

The former Disney star also offered advice for girls who are trying to build their self esteem, despite recently coming under fire for being what some critics label "overtly sexual."

"Just be who you are, and that is where your style will come from, and your attitude, and your spirituality, and your sexuality. Because it's coming from a place of love," she added.

In January, Cyrus, the daughter of country music star Billy Ray Cyrus, was slammed by The Culture and Media Institute after photos surfaced of the singer licking a penis-shaped birthday cake- made for boyfriend Hemsworth, according to Inquistr.com.

"[Miley has]become the epitome of the anti-role model for young girls," the publication stated.

More recently Cyrus was criticized for exposing what some considered to be "too much" skin at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards.
