“We’re talking about an updated browser with faster rendering, a redesigned app launcher, richer resizable widgets, and more versatile imaging capabilities,” Motorola continued. “Mix in unique features such as type with your voice capability and Data Manager to control your network data usage and you have yourself quite a treat.”

Motorola's press release also mentions some of the new features that come with Ice Cream Sandwich including the updated “People” application that replaces contacts and integrates with Google plus and other social networks.

The company also stated that it began rolling out the Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade in phases this week and should continue this process throughout the next few weeks.

Other details regarding the update are currently available on the Motorola XOOM Wi-Fi ICS upgrade PDF page.

Another tablet that has already received the ICS upgrade is the ASUS Transformer Prime that got it last week. The software is expected to catapult Android to a whole other level.

Ice Cream Sandwich debuted as Google and Samsung’s joint “Mobile Unpacked” event back in October. The flagship device for the platform is the Samsung Galaxy Nexus smartphone. It was promised by various companies that it would soon roll out to other tablets and handsets. This seems to finally be happening.
