'NCIS' Cast for Season 12 May Include Gibbs' Never-Before-Seen Ex-Wife

"NCIS" fans will get a rare treat in the upcoming season: the opportunity to finally see Gibbs' elusive second ex-wife. She has never been seen in the past 11 seasons, though Gibbs has made references to her before.

Gibbs was first married to Shannon, who was killed with their daughter Kelly. Gibbs has never fully recovered from those losses and still holds a soft spot in his heart for Shannon and their daughter. He then married Diane Sterling; when they divorced, she married FBI Senior Special Agent Tobias Fornell. They have one daughter, which forces Fornell and Sterling to interact. She has been featured in more recent episodes and actually had to work with both of her ex-husbands to solve a case.

The mysterious redhead was wife number three, though no one has ever actually seen her.

"I can promise you that [the mystery wife] is probably going to be touched on in season 12," showrunner Gary Glasberg told TVLine. "I have a little tiny space on my Dry Erase board for stories for next season, and that's already up there."

The last wife was Stephanie, who lived with him while he was stationed in Russia. They reportedly separated while Gibbs was on the trail of a serial killer known as Kyle Boone. According to Ducky, Stephanie was the one to end the relationship.

Some have speculated that Mark Harmon's own wife, Pam Dawber, may end up playing the role of his mysterious ex-wife. Viewers would love to see Dawber guest star on the show, Glasberg says, though he's not sure if that will happen this season.

"That'd be fun," he stated. "Every year someone says, 'Maybe Pam will [be on the show],' and every year it doesn't happen. I have a feeling that's a tall order, but it's worth a phone call."

"NCIS" season 12 will premiere this fall on CBS. It is one of the channel's highest-rated shows.
