'NCIS' Season 11 Spoilers: Team Goes to New Orleans, Spin-Off Series Is Born

"NCIS" season eleven is wrapping up on CBS with just a few episodes remaining, but fans may be seeing more of Scott Bakula rather than the regular cast of characters this week.

Earlier this year, "NCIS" show runners announced that a spin-off series based on New Orleans would debut this fall starring Bakula. As a result, the final installments of "NCIS" season 11 are serving as the "pilot" episodes of "NCIS: New Orleans," according to reports this week.

Last year, executive producer Gary Glasberg discussed the spin-off series rooted in "NCIS," hinting that the beginning of the new series set in New Orleans would start in the original.

"I went to ['NCIS star] Mark Harmon as I do every year and said, 'I went through some stories and, hey, I came across this scenario. I'd love to try to do an episode,'" the producer explained.

Despite laying groundwork for the spin-off series, the "NCIS" finale is said to focus on Tony DiNozzo in a big moment. After losing the love of his life when Ziva left the "NCIS" team, fans are ready to see the character in better spirits.

"I'd really like to focus on and come up with something for the season finale that has a strong Tony element to it, in fact, we're about to sit down and talk about that," Glasberg previously told TV Line.

Furthermore, the "NCIS" season 11 finale will address the death of Ralph Waite, according to a CBS spokesperson.

NCIS" airs on CBS Tuesdays at 8 p.m. EST. The synopsis of "Crescent City" on TV Guide reads: "Part 1 of 2. A Congressman, who was a former NCIS agent, is murdered in New Orleans. Gibbs joins the case with a former colleague in the Crescent City field office and the FBI to determine whether the murder was politically motivated or linked to the victim's arrest of a serial killer who targeted the military personnel and public servants."

The season finale of "NCIS" is scheduled to air at its regular time on Tues. May 13.
