‘Necessary' or 'misguided'? 6 reactions to House antisemitism bill
Marjorie Taylor Greene
Among the opponents of the Antisemitism Awareness Act is Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, who declared on X that she wouldn't vote for the bill.
"Antisemitism is wrong, but I will not be voting for the Antisemitism Awareness Act of 2023 (H.R. 6090) today that could convict Christians of antisemitism for believing the Gospel that says Jesus was handed over to Herod to be crucified by the Jews," Greene stated.
The congresswoman received significant media attention shortly after her election to the House due to a 2018 social media post implying space lasers were responsible for the California wildfires. Greene was also criticized for allegedly promoting conspiracy theories about the Jewish people.
In a follow-up post published Friday, the Georgia Republican blamed Lawler for helping Democrats take New York Rep. George Santos’ seat after the Republican was expelled from Congress due to ethics complaints. The post cited a Daily Caller op-ed titled “The GOP Beclowns Itself With Un-American Speech Bill That Puts Constitution Through A Paper Shredder.”
“Under Speaker Johnson, freshman Republican Mike Lawler has caused two major failures,” Greene wrote. “Expelling George Santos which allowed a Dem to win that seat and this free speech killing bill to please both of their donors.”
“I voted NO to both of these,” she added.
