New BlackBerry Smartphones Announced: BlackBerry Bold 9790 and Curve 9380
Research in Motion announced two of its new BlackBerry smartphone models today.
The models announced include the BlackBerry Bold 9790 and Curve 9380. The new batch of BlackBerries joins the other devices that RIM has introduced since August.
The BlackBerry Bold 9790 comes with a set of interesting features, such as a 2.4-inch capacitive touch screen, 1 GHz processor, NFC support, 8 GB onboard storage, and a microSD slot with support for another 32 GB of storage. The keyboard, known for being outfitted with most BlackBerry smartphones, comes with this model as well.

The Curve 9380 also has a list of noteworthy features, such as a 3.2-inch capacitive touch screen, 5 megapixel rear-facing camera and NFC capabilities.
Both BlackBerry smartphones will be run using the new BlackBerry 7 operating system.
BlackBerry 7 OS adds support for OpenGL ES 2.0 graphics for 3D games, HD video recording at 720p, and a digital compass. The home screen, applications, web browser, and universal search have also been improved.
This new OS also supports augmented reality applications, the premium version of Documents To Go, BlackBerry Protect, and BlackBerry Balance.
The future line of BlackBerry's will run a new mobile OS called BBX.
Research in Motion is planning to get a better share of the smartphone market through the new models.
"Earlier this fall, some analysts said they thought the phones appeared to be selling well, offsetting to some extent slower sales of older models. RIM has said sales have been very good, though it won't be clear precisely how they are faring until RIM reports earnings next month,” said the Wall Street Journal.
"RIM has been struggling with a rapidly falling share of the North American smartphone market to competitors like Apple Inc.'s iPhone and phones running on Google Inc.'s Android operating system,” the Wall Street Journal added.
