New Facebook iPad App Releases; Glitches Already Found

Facebook has finally released its app for the social media network on "iPad" and other OS devices, but bugs and glitches are already present.

The app, which is now available from the Apple app store, officially released yesterday. The application is actually an upgrade of the existing iPhone app, which resulted in a modified version that could fill the larger iPad screen. The release of this app comes 18 months after Apple launched its "iPad" device.

Facebook's chief technology officer Bret Taylor said, "We're releasing it now because it's done."

The app features a navigation tool that slides in and out of the left side of the screen, always-there notifications and messages icons for news updates, built-in chat, a full-screen mode for games and slideshows for photo albums. Users can now "pinch" the screen to zoom in and out of pictures, as well as swipe to flip through photos that fill the entire screen display.

Even with all these added features, users have already run into some issues with the Facebook application. Reports have surfaced about the app not allowing users to see their pages when clicking on left panel icons.

Journalist Mark Coyle pointed out: "I have an Apple dock/keyboard, and if you put the iPad on the dock then try to comment on a post, the 'Send' button doesn't appear. Take it off the dock - it appears. Poor testing by FB."

The app may not load altogether on some "iPhone" and "iTouch" devices as well.

The issues with the application present a problem for the users already, but Facebook still brings in large numbers of visitors to its site regardless.

The company stated that of the 350 million people who access the social network on their mobile devices every month, about half do so through a web browser and half use applications built on their phone or tablet operating system.

Facebook has not yet created an official app for its website on Android-enabled devices.
