New Pokemon-Themed 2DS XL Arriving This November
Fans of the Pokemon franchise who are looking to get a new gaming handheld device need not look any further.
In a Nintendo Direct broadcast last Wednesday, Nintendo revealed the limited edition Pokemon-themed New 2DS XL. It sports a design that is inspired by the famous Poke Ball that is used in many "Pokemon" games. It comes with the same clamshell design, much like the standard 2DS XL, though the top part strikingly carries that of the Poke Ball.
Nintendo of America also announced the arrival of the device on a Twitter post. "Catch the Poké Ball Edition New Nintendo #2DSXL on November 3rd!," wrote Nintendo.
According to Gamespot, the Pokemon-inspired handheld console will come out two weeks before the release of two "Pokemon" titles, namely, "Pokemon Ultra Sun" and "Ultra Moon." The two titles with be the game's latest installments slated for release on Nov. 17.
Meanwhile, Polygon noted that this is not the first time the gaming giant will release a Pokemon-inspired handheld device. The company already released special edition consoles that include a Pikachu-themed version.
As for the price tag of the Poke Ball New 2DS XL version, Nintendo has yet to announce how much it will cost. A standard 2DS XL console costs around $150 USD, which means the upcoming edition will likely be somewhere around that price range.
In other Pokemon news, Pokemon Company CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara recently shared with Bloomberg what fans can expect from "Pokemon GO." He said that they are planning to add some features from other Pokemon games into "Pokemon GO."
"We've only accomplished 10 percent of what Pokémon and Niantic are trying to do, so going forward we will have to include fundamental Pokémon experiences such as Pokémon trading and peer-to-peer battles, and other possibilities," Ishihara explained.
Furthermore, he also shared that his team is trying to strike a balance between a number of key factors. These include the different characteristics of the Pokemon creatures, game design, and the sentiments of the players.
