Nexus 5 Vs. LG G2: Spec by Spec Comparison
The Nexus 5 Google handset was based on the device that launched shortly before it named the LG G2.
The two devices feature similar specs, but differ in other ways as the Nexus 5 features a slightly smaller screen and lower megapixel camera. So does the Google branded model outclass the original in this case? It seems like some areas just haven't been improved with the Nexus. The LG G2 features a 5.2-inch True HD-IPS + LCD display with 1080x1920 pixels at 424 ppi. The Nexus 5 features the same kind of display but shrinks it down to 4.95-inches. It also has the same resolution at 445 ppi. Both of these displays fit perfectly on their respective devices but the Nexus 5 might win in the clarity department thanks to more pixels per inch. The IPS+LCD makes for great picture and adds significant value to both phones.
Camera
The LG G2 features a 13-megapixel camera that comes with optical image stabilization and LED flash. It also can record videos and images simultaneously and features geo-tagging and face detection. The Nexus 5 comes with an 8-megapixel camera with optical image stabilization. When the Nexus model first launched customers were complaining about picture quality and some of the features not working properly. Google issued software updates to correct those problems, but the G2 probably still takes this area due to the higher amount of megapixels.
Speed
Both devices feature the same Qualcomm 800 processors and the same amount of RAM at 2GB. Each of these handsets are extremely fast. Judging from the Nexus 5 alone, the construction by LG made for two of the fastest smartphones to be released in 2013. The only devices that will outpace the LG G2 and Nexus 5 will be handsets that launch next year.
Software
The Nexus 5 comes with a pure Android layout and runs 4.4 KitKat while the LG G2 runs an older version with Android 4.2.2, JellyBean. The Google branded handset has the clear advantage here as the latest Android software runs extremely smooth and efficient on it. Older Android builds lag and the LG device most likely features other unwanted apps that are made specifically for company models. The LG G2 should be updating to Android 4.4 before the end of the year.
Conclusion
The LG G2 and Nexus 5 are certainly cut from the same cloth, but the G2 is stronger in terms of hardware with its better camera and larger display. The Nexus 5 has the advantage in the software department and has better picture judging from the numbers. Both of them are extremely fast and the unlocked $349 price might make the Nexus 5 more appealing to some. However, buyers cannot go wrong with either of them.
