On 'X Factor' R. Kelly Thanks God for Comeback
R. Kelly made a live comeback on the “X Factor” Wednesday night, singing “I Believe I Can Fly” alongside the show finalist Melanie Armano.
The Grammy-winning musician underwent surgery to drain an abscess from one of his tonsils, after entering a Chicago hospital and complaining of an extremely sore throat in July.
Kelly received much criticism after canceling all commitments following the surgery in order to recuperate. The artist praised God on his Twitter account relaying how much the “X Factor” performance meant to him.
"To have been thru what I have been thru - having throat surgery and not only unable to sing, but not even able to talk - and to end up on the stage of “X Factor” tonight shows the true power of God,” he wrote.
In November, the singer uploaded a new song to his Twitter that responded to much of the criticism that he had received. The song, titled “Shut Up” says “I just want to thank God for keeping his hands on me” and denies rumors about his career being over.
In the spring of 2012, R. Kelly plans are releasing a complete autobiography titled "Soula Coaster: The Diary of Me." In a 2009 press release he wrote, “I'm tired of being misunderstood."
“X-Factor” winner Melanie Armano also described what an emotional moment it was for her to be able to be the first to sing alongside R. Kelly in his first debut back. “I feel really good. I feel as though my heart is still out on the stage. I poured it out there and as a matter of fact I feel like I have to go out and get it."
