'Once Upon a Time' Season 3 Spoilers: 'Epic Wish Fulfillment' Promised for Season Finale (TRAILER VIDEO)
"Once Upon a Time" comes to a dramatic close for the season on Sunday, and executive producer Adam Horowitz has promised "epic wish fulfillment" for viewers. Of course, that doesn't come without a few surprises and cliff-hangers.
"We really envisioned this to be a two-hour movie. It straddles the line between [being] self-contained and what we think is a satisfying climax to the year," executive producer Eddy Kitsis told The Hollywood Reporter. "All these questions that we've posed during the year will get answered in these final two hours."
One of those questions is if, and when, residents of Storybrooke will realize that Zelena is dead and that Rumple killed her. Along with that comes the question of what will happen if, and when, Belle finds out that Rumple betrayed her … and what Regina will do now that her sister is dead.
"Everybody thinks Zelena's in that jail cell," Horowitz said. "They're going to find out very quickly that she's not. What's that going to mean? That comes to a head pretty quickly this weekend."
The producers also revealed why they chose "No Place Like Home" for the title of the final episode, and it is both a play on the Oz theme that has run throughout the latter part of the season as well as Emma's desperate search for a place to belong.
"This year, we started out with Emma in Neverland being a leader, getting her son back, but we find out emotionally that she still felt like an orphan and right now her greatest memories are fake ones of being in New York. Emma is a character who's looking for a home, but because she's never had one she doesn't know what it's like. That is why the finale is called 'No Place Like Home' because we are going to have Emma ask that very question," Kitsis explained.
Hook and Emma find themselves in a great deal of danger on Sunday night, which may bring them even closer and lead to a romance. In the trailer, viewers see them dancing together in period clothing. They find themselves trapped in the Enchanted Forest and have to work to get back to Storybrooke and also have to make the decision as to whether they even want to return.
Viewers will also finally learn what Snow White and Prince Charming named their baby boy, and the producers promise that viewers will "know why and how we came up with it."
"I hope people are as excited about it as we are," Horowitz said of the plans to go somewhere new in the finale. "There's really no way to tease it beforehand without giving it away."
When asked how they would describe the season finale, both producers answered very simply – "epic wish fulfillment."
Tune in to ABC on Sunday night for the two-hour finale.
