'One Piece' Holographic 3DCG Stage Event Set for Early 2018

The 20th-anniversary celebration of "One Piece" may already be underway, but the festivities have yet to reach its epic climax. Fans, though, may need to wait for a few more months before it happens.

The play will feature holographic and 3DCG effects, showcasing the different elements of the iconic franchise.

Comicbook.com said that the play's story will revolve around the past key arcs of the franchise, including the Battle of Marineford. Furthermore, it will also feature new characters and a brand new storyline.

Shueisha, the manga's publisher, first revealed the playback in 2016, and was supposed to debut this year, AnimeNewsNetwork reported. To usher in the project, the DMM VR Theater in Yokohama screened "Mugiwara no Ichimi vs Kaigun vs Ōka Shichi Bukai Holographic Battle Theater Encore in Yokohama" in late 2016.

It featured an updated version of the 2014 screening. The DMM VR Theater uses holographic technology in hosting events like virtual concerts of different artists like Hatsune Miku and other Vocaloid performers.

The success of "One Piece" over the past two decades has reached audiences from different parts of the world. With its popularity, some people go to the extent of leaking and uploading manga content ahead of their intended release date. In Japan, several people were recently arrested by authorities for uploading spoilers online.

A report from the Tokyo Reporter earlier this month said that more than five persons were apprehended after law enforcers tightened their crackdown against online spoilers. The suspects allegedly uploaded different panels of the "One Piece" anime in a spoiler site before the magazine officially hit the stands.

Police reported that the suspects obtained the panels from select stores that carried the manga, days before they are sold to the public.
