After the troubling events by the end of the first season of the show, the story will reportedly be set in Paris, France, where Jamie will infiltrate the French political scene in order to carry out his mission.

Meanwhile, Claire, who will be going through her pregnancy, will support her husband and make sure that he forgets the tragic events that took place in Scotland during the first season.

"Jamie's thrown himself into it wholeheartedly. He's in it, but he's not relishing it at all. We see them slowly get better at [playing the game] and learn they can undercut people and be quite political themselves," Heughan said regarding his character's gradual change throughout the season.

Season 2 of Outlander will showcase a more elaborate wardrobe for the cast in order to describe the French culture during that time, according to reports. The colourful costumes will be a breath of fresh air after the first season was filled with dull earth tones.

For fans of science fiction and historical literature, Outlander is a mix of both. It is based on a novel by Diana Gabaldon that tells the story of a woman who travels back in time in order to change history. Season 2 of the show is based on Gabaldon's sequel, "Dragonfly in Amber."
