Paul Walker May Have Died During Drag Race, Say Investigators
Paul Walker may have been killed while drag racing in California after attending a fundraiser on Saturday, an investigator said Monday.
Another car could have been at the scene when the 2005 Porsche Carrera GT in which Walker was riding, struck a light pole and burst into flames, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Sgt. Richard Cohen told CNN Sunday.
"Naturally, from an investigative standpoint, we need to find out if that is one of the issues," he said.
Investigators are also considering the possibility that another car caused the Porsche to swerve and crash, Cohen said.
One witness explained that he heard a loud pop before the accident, which could have been a blown tire.
"What the first explosion was, I don't know if their tire blew up, because it sounded like a tire blew on the car," Jim Torp, a car enthusiast who was at the charity event that Walker attended before the wreck, told CNN.
There has been an outpouring of support from fans all over the globe after news of the actor's passing was posted to his social media accounts.
"It's with a heavy heart that we must confirm Paul Walker passed away today in a tragic car accident," read a tweet posted through his verified Twitter account at 9:14 p.m. Saturday.
It also directed the star's nearly 900,000 Twitter followers to a fuller comment on his Facebook account issued to nearly six million fans.
"It is with a truly heavy heart that we must confirm that Paul Walker passed away today in a tragic car accident while attending a charity event for his organization Reach Out Worldwide," noted the post.
