Porsha Williams News: Real Housewives of Atlanta Star Talks Decision to Revert to Maiden Name After Kordell Stewart Divorce

Porsha Williams is revealing why she decided to let go of her ex-husband's surname after publicly declaring that she would keep it.

Williams is officially divorced from former NFL player Kordell Stewart, and "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" star seems to be ready to start over. Although 32-year-old Williams has publicly declared that she will keep the surname that she acquired after marrying her estranged husband, she revealed that her maiden name suits her best.

"I am officially Porsha Williams. I was holding onto something and I really can't explain to you what it was," Williams told ABC News Radio recently. "But just as women we have the right to change our minds. I just want to leave my own legacy and I want to build up who I am, and be able to leave that with that name Williams."

The decision is a U-turn from what the reality television star confirmed when she spoke about the issue on "The Wendy Williams Show" last year. At that time she explained why she was keeping her surname.

"I'm going to keep Stewart. A lot of people say, 'Why?! Give him his name,'" she told talk show host Wendy Williams. "It's not his name, it's my name. I was Porsha Williams at one part in my life before I got married."

However, some people such as her "Real Housewives of Atlanta" co-star NeNe Leakes disagreed with Williams.

Leakes took to her personal blog on www.neneleakesofficial.com to speak directly to Porsha about not wanting to revert to her maiden name Williams when the divorce is finalized.

"This is for you, Porsha: If you are so done with Kordell, be done with his last name as well," Leakes wrote. "You guys don't have children together, so why hold on to something that was negative for you?"
