Prince William, Kate Middleton 'Completely in Love,' Photographer Says of Royal Couple
The photographer who took Prince William and Kate Middleton's engagement photos has spilled the beans about his time with the couple and what it took to get the perfect shot.
"You could see they were completely in love," Mario Testino told The Telegraph. "I waited a long time, an hour or two, to make that picture perfect. But I wasn't totally satisfied. Then, when I'd finished the shoot, they were about to leave and they suddenly hugged in front of a radiator. I took my camera and that was the picture that ran everywhere – it was spontaneous emotion – you could see they were completely in love."
The photo was a break from the traditional, sometimes stiff photos of royals announcing their engagements. Testino's "spontaneous" shot became famous and seemingly set a trend of the newest royal family showing their true emotions and not being afraid to do so. Since then, William and Kate have been photographed hugging, holding hands, and expressing genuine love for one another.
"Kate, she is beautiful in a different way," he said when asked about her beauty and that of her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana. "She radiates happiness. She is comfortable in her love."
"It was like a fairy tale," he said of Diana. "Who was she really? Why did she do this? She was trying to find love. I wanted the world to see her kindness, her humility: I think she realized that would be her way."
Testino, who is familiar with the royal family noted that Prince Harry is "so like Prince Charles: they act alike, they have the same sense of humor, the same confidence." Meanwhile, William is "more like his mother, there's a kindness and a gentleness there that instantly wins you over."
