Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), will be speaking at the National Right to Life Convention in Dallas, Texas, on Friday and is the recipient of a 100 percent rating from the pro-life organization that's based in Washington, D.C. for being a "strong advocate for unborn children."

"We are thrilled Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, who has had an unwavering commitment to pro-life issues, is able to address our convention here in Texas this year," Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life Committee told The Christian Post on Wednesday. "He has a long history of support for the pro-life cause."

Tobias continued, "As more people become aware of the truth and violence of abortion, and as legislation educates people on the reality that unborn children can feel pain, we see Americans becoming more determined that unborn children are deserving of protection. With sonograms on fridges as a celebrated 'first baby picture,' it only makes sense that our culture would alter to recognize the humanity of the unborn child."

Following the conviction of late-term abortionist Kermit Gosnell, Cruz said that, "No court can ever provide proper relief for the unimaginable pain that Kermit Gosnell inflicted on women and their children. His atrocities shed light on the truly gruesome acts of late-term abortion. We need to keep working to prevent such crimes against humanity–deliberate infanticide–from happening again. May we all remember this heart-breaking case as a vivid example of the urgent need to protect innocent human life at all stages."

Cruz is among the House lawmakers who voted in favor of the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (H.R. 1797) that passed by a vote of 228-196 earlier this month. If it were to be signed into law, the bill would ban abortion at the beginning of the sixth month of pregnancy. The bill, however, is not expected to pass in the Senate, but even if it does pass, President Obama has already threatened to veto it.

"This legislation reflects the views of the overwhelming majority of both men and women," Tobias said in a statement. "The Obama White House, and all but a handful of House Democrats, fought for essentially unlimited abortion in the sixth month or later, despite growing public awareness of the violence perpetrated by late-term abortionists such as Kermit Gosnell and the pain they inflict on unborn babies."

Tobias also noted that, "as a legislator, Barack Obama said he would trust abortionists to take good care of any babies born alive. Obama's veto threat harkened back to his opposition to the ban on partial-birth abortion, and his attacks on the Supreme Court for upholding the ban on that brutal method of late abortion."

Cruz, a Republican, will be speaking at NRL's Friday morning "Winning for Life in 2014," general session, as part of the organization's three-day convention.

Other Texas pro-life lawmakers who will be attending this year's convention include former 2012 presidential candidate Gov. Rick Perry, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst and Attorney General Greg Abbott, in addition to 100 other speakers.

Convention attendees will also hear from Reggie Littlejohn of Women's Rights Without Frontiers, Ryan Bomberger of the Radiance Foundation, Bobby Schindler of the Terri Schiavo Life and Hope Network, bioethicist Wesley Smith and David Barton, president of WallBuilders.
