'Property Brothers' Stars Drew and Jonathan Scott Pour Out Emotions Over Las Vegas Shooting
Despite their light, bubbly, and funny on-screen demeanor, Drew and Jonathan Scott could not hide their emotions over the tragedy that took place in Las Vegas earlier this month.
In a statement released to PEOPLE, the twins who star in HGTV's "Property Brothers" poured out their thoughts and sentiments on the incident that took away 58 lives and injured close to 500 people.
"It's heartbreaking enough to hear of such a tragedy anywhere in the world, but when it's this close to home, it affects you even deeper," said the Scott brothers who live in a family compound in Las Vegas. "Vegas is such a vibrant city known for welcoming people from all over the world with open arms. Sadly, in this dark hour, the city we love is struggling," the 39-year-old twins added.
The shooting occurred last Oct. 1 during the Route 91 Harvest music festival in Las Vegas, Nevada. The gunman, who eventually killed himself hours after the incident, went on a killing spree that has become the most shocking case of shooting in the recent history of the United States.
The Scott brothers also sent out their sympathies to everyone affected by the incident and hailed the people who bravely helped the victims amidst the danger. "Our thoughts go out to all of the victims and their families. And our thanks goes out to all the first responders and citizens who took action to help. You are heroes," said the brothers.
They also said that the incident should not turn people numb and that everyone should not let all of the deaths be in vain.
Meanwhile, fellow HGTV star Tarek El Moussa of "Flip or Flop" also shared his thoughts after revealing that he almost got involved in the incident. "I was there last night at the Route 91 Harvest Country Music Festival in #Vegas. My friend Robert wanted to come home early which we did," posted El Moussa on Instagram.
He said that his heart goes out to all the victims and that people should start treating "everyday with the importance it deserves."
