'Real Housewives' Alex McCord, Simon Van Kempen Divorce? Pair Returning to Reality TV
Alex McCord and Simon Van Kempen claim that their marriage is in turmoil and the pair has surprisingly thought it best to turn to the Vh1 network in a bid to save their marriage.
The former "Real Housewives of New York" stars are returning to the world of reality television via "Couples Therapy," a show which explores the destructive behavior of dysfunctional couples.
The pair confirmed that they had been fired by Bravo execs in September after appearing on the popular reality series for four seasons, a departure that Van Kempen described as being "bittersweet."
"It was bittersweet to finally get the call last Saturday but we knew it was on the cards. Four years is a long time in TV land and we had no idea when we auditioned in 2006 that we'd still have been on air in 2011," the former hotelier said in a statement to Us Magazine.
The couple, dubbed "silex" by Housewives fans, will appear in a new season of the hit Vh1 show alongside several other troubled celebrity couples including 17-year-old Courtney Stodden and her 52-year-old husband Doug Hutchison, according to TMZ.
Others who are set to receive "intense counseling" on the reality show include R&B singer JoJo (From K-Ci & JoJo) and his wife, followed by controversial Dirty.com blogger Nik Richie and his "The Bachelor" star wife Shayne Lamas.
Rapper Too $hort will also appear on the show with his girlfriend of 15 years Monica Payne.
While some critics have questioned whether McCord, 37, and Van Kempen, 47, may be faking their marital woes to make their way back to reality TV, the pair insist that their troubles are genuine.
McCord previously said that the duo has been extremely busy working on their newly launched business.
"Simon and I recently launched a home goods company, Aluxe Home, and we've been so involved in the textile market week that began today that it feels a bit like being shot out of a cannon!" McCord said.
