'Real Housewives of Atlanta' Negative Stereotypes Slammed by Civil Rights Group
A Civil Rights group called ColorofChange is calling for a ban of violence on the "Real Housewives of Atlanta."
After viewers witnessed the show's personalities Porsha Williams and Kenya Moore's verbal exchange become heated, the former became physical. While Moore pressed charges leading to Williams' arrest, rumors have been swirling about the latter posibly being kicked off of the show for assaulting her fellow cast member.
Andy Cohen, a Bravo network executive, has publicly declared that no major casting decisions have been made yet. Now, ColorofChange is blasting the network's is blasting the network's "continued reliance on violent, stereotypical images of Black folks."

"We are deeply troubled by the bullying and the physical violence that took place on the Real Housewives of Atlanta Reunion," the group told E! News.
"More alarming than the confrontation itself is the unwillingness of Bravo network executives like Andy Cohen to take responsibility for staging and profiting from a hostile and toxic environment. The fighting is an inevitable result of Bravo's business model and has become a disturbing trend that extends beyond the RHOA cast across most of Bravo's Black 'reality' television franchises."
The Hollywood Reporter said the group wants Bravo to make a no violence policy.
Moore spoke out against the violence at the hands of Moore adding, "As violent responses escalate, they can quickly result in severe injury or even death."
While many claimed Moore's actions on the show were provoking, she defended herself.
"There are many inflammatory statements made by cast members to and about each other particularly during the reunion tapings. Many have made untrue, denigrating, disparaging, and inflammatory statements against me in an attempt to provoke me, but I have never reacted in a violent way," she said. "My intellect and my brain are my most powerful weapons -- not my fists. If people get so angry that they lose control and admittedly 'black out' and resort to violence, those persons must be held responsible for their actions."
Williams representatives explained the charges brought against her.
"She is charged with one misdemeanor count of simple battery stemming from an incident that occurred during the taping of the Real Housewives of Atlanta Reunion episode," her representatives told E! "Cast member Kenya Moore sought out the warrant and, although the claim is unfounded, Ms. Williams is fully cooperating with investigators and looks forward to clearing her name."
