Rihanna Calls Chris Brown Collaboration 'Innocent,' Then Tweets Suggestive Lyrics
Rihanna, who is rumored to have reunited with ex-boyfriend Chris Brown, has defended her recent collaboration with him suggesting that it was a business decision.
Rihanna stirred controversy after she released "Birthday Cake," a sexually explicit song, which featured Chris Brown. To further intensify controversy, she also collaborated with Brown on his own upcoming album.
Three weeks after the song's release, Rihanna has come forward to explain why she decided to work with Chris Brown in a joint collaboration.
"The first song that came about was 'Birthday Cake.' ... We ended up recording [the two songs] at the same time and executing them together," she explained on Ryan Seacrest's radio show Thursday morning. "But I reached out to [Brown] about doing 'Birthday Cake' because that's the only person that, really, it made sense to do the record."
When rumors spread about the musical collaboration, many began to assume that Brown and Rihanna had resumed their romantic relationship. The idea of Rihanna reuniting with Brown shocked many after their domestic dispute in which Rihanna reported to police that Brown had severely beaten her.
One woman even wrote a letter to Rihanna suggesting what a bad example Rihanna was setting for other women who had been in her situation.
Rihanna however, is now saying that her decision to work with Brown was a business decision.
"Just as a musician, despite everything else, that was going to be the person," she told Seacrest. "You know, I thought about rappers, and I've done that so many times, and the hottest R&B artist out right now is Chris Brown. So I wanted him on the track and then in turn he was like, 'Why don't you do the remix to my track?' and it was a trade-off."
Instead of Brown and Rihanna reuniting, Rihanna has stated that she hoped the move would help unite both of their fans.
"We did two records- one for my fans, one for his fans- and that way our fans can come together," Rihanna explained. "There shouldn't be a divide, you know? It's music and it's innocent."
Despite her defense, over the weekend Rihanna tweeted suggestive song lyrics that prompted fans, yet again, to ask if the couple was getting back together.
"When they see me with you, wonder what the crowd would say? When they find us together, what will all the people say?" she wrote.
