Rihanna, Chris Brown Back Together: Singer Explains Why She Took Him Back
Rihanna recently confirmed that she and Chris Brown are dating again after months of speculation. However, many fans are now confused and questioning whether he is also in a relationship with Karrueche Tran.
The Bajan singer, who split with Brown in 2009 after he assaulted her, opened up about her decision to take him back. The interview comes just two weeks after Tran, who split with Brown in October, openly discussed the possibility of marrying him.
"I decided it was more important for me to be happy. I wasn't going to let anybody's opinion get in the way of that," Rihanna told editor Josh Eells of Rolling Stone magazine.
"Even if it's a mistake, it's my mistake. After being tormented for so many years, being angry and dark, I'd rather just live my truth and take the backlash. I can handle it," she continued.
Fans of the 24-year-old singer were horrified in 2009 when photos of her battered face surfaced online and many subsequently began boycotting Brown. Various reports claim that her friends, family, and allegedly even mentor Jay-Z, urged the singer not to get involved with Brown, 23, but she insists that their relationship is different now.
"When you add up the pieces from the outside, it's not the cutest puzzle in the world. You see us walking somewhere, driving somewhere, in the studio, in the club, and you think you know. But it's different now," she said.
"We don't have those types of arguments anymore. We talk about s---. We value each other. We know exactly what we have now, and we don't want to lose that," she explained.
The couple has been spotted on various dates in recent months, which fueled reports of a reconciliation in 2012. Brown admittedly ended his 2-year relationship with Tran over Rihanna in October, although he and Tran continue to spend quality time together, fueling speculation that they are still romantically involved.
"From what I've always known, [Karrueche's] his girlfriend. That's where it lies for me," singer Christina Milian, who is a close friend of Brown and Tran, said during a recent appearance on the "Wendy Williams Show."
Just weeks prior to Rihanna's revelation, Tran, a 24-year-old model, left fans assuming that she and Brown are still involved by remaining coy during her first radio interview. She was asked to confirm the current status of her and Brown's relationship.
"I can't say ... I'll just keep that personal," Tran told Atlanta's STREETZ 94.5 radio show in response to where her and Brown currently stand.
The conversation soon centered on what Tran would say if the "Turn Up The Music" singer dropped to one knee and asked for her hand in marriage.
"Why you gotta do that? Oh my gosh ... ya'll playing me right now," the blushing model said while nervously laughing. "The time is not right though ... at all. Everybody's focused [on work]."
Despite ongoing rumors surrounding Brown's involvement with Tran, Rihanna remains hopeful that the singer will not ruin their relationship again.
"He doesn't have the luxury of f------ up again. That's just not an option. I can't say that nothing else will ever go wrong," Rihanna said. "But I'm pretty solid in the knowing that he's disgusted by [prior mistakes]. And I wouldn't have gone this far if I ever thought that was a possibility."
