Robert Griffin III Fined $10,000 for Wearing Wrong Brand

Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III was fined $10,000 by the NFL for wearing Adidas apparel during his post-game press conference after his team beat the Baltimore Ravens on Dec. 9.

Griffin did not play in the game as he was listed as inactive on the team's injury report after suffering a sprained knee.

During the post-game press conference he wore an Adidas T-shirt and sweat jacket, but that did not sit well with league officials due to the league's sponsorship deal with Nike. Griffin has an endorsement deal with Adidas.

NFL sources revealed that he was fined for wearing "unofficial attire."

This is the second time this season that Griffin has been called out by the league for what he was wearing, but this is the first time he has been fined for it.

During the Redskins season opener, Griffin covered up the Nike logo on his official team warm-up shirt before he took the field against the New Orleans Saints, but was not publically reprimanded.

Griffin is a hugely popular figure in the NFL, and he has had the highest number of sales on NFLShop.com for his number 10 NFL jersey since the league began recording sales six years ago, NFL spokeswoman Joanna Hunter said recently.

The specific number for Griffin's sales has not yet been released since the league's fiscal year does not end until March 31, but ESPN did report that he took retired quarterback Brett Favre's spot who previously held the record with both the New York Jets in 2008 and the Minnesota Vikings in 2009.

While Griffin has yet to address his accomplishment directly, he thanked NFL fans for making his first season in the league special.

"Thank you to all the fans out there for making this NFL experience truly special and driving the excitement surrounding our team," Griffin recently posted on Twitter.
