Robin Gibb Condition Grave, 'Hoping and Praying'
Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees has been diagnosed with a severe case of pneumonia and is in a coma, reports indicated Saturday.
"Sadly the reports are true that Robin has contracted pneumonia and is in a coma," a statement on his official website said. "We are all hoping and praying that he will pull through."
Following Gibb's latest hospitalization and grave condition, his son Robin-John Gibb shed some light on the singer's condition.
"My dad has had a hard recovery from cancer," Robin-John was quoted as saying by Daily Mail. "When you rid of the cancer a lot of periphery problems can occur. This is so sad."
The 62-year-old singer was reported to have been near death after a colon cancer diagnosis last year, but he beat the odds and his health was looking up. Then last month, Gibb underwent intestinal surgery, but again had been making a swift recovery.
"On Sunday 25 March, Robin Gibb underwent further intestinal surgery," explained the Bee Gee singer's spokesperson at the time. "Robin underwent the operation successfully, he is awake and has been talking to his doctors."
Gibb was forced to cancel performances that were lined up ahead of the debut of "Titanic Requiem," a work he composed with his son in honor of the 100th anniversary of the ship's sinking this month.
In 2003 Maurice Gibb, Robin's twin brother and fellow Bee Gee, died at 53 of a twisted colon caused by a congenital defect that Robin also shares.
Ahead of his surgery last month, Gibb appeared upbeat during an interview with BBC Radio 2.
"I was diagnosed with a growth in my colon, explained the "How Deep Is Your Love" singer. "It was removed. And I've been treated for that by a brilliant doctor, and in their own words 'the results have been spectacular.'"
