Robin Thicke Talks 'Trying' to Save Marriage, Miley Cyrus Not Cause For Split
Robin Thicke is making it clear that he is not giving up on his marriage to estranged wife Paula Patton.
Thicke, the 36-year-old singer, is speaking up about his intentions for the future with Patton, the 38-year-old actress. The pair announced their split Monday after over 20 years together, but Thicke insists he is not walking away easily.
"I'm just trying to get her back, man," he told TMZ Thursday.
The announcement of the pair's split came on Monday, when the couple that has been married since 2005 said they would remain friends.
"We will always love each other and be best friends, however, we have mutually decided to separate at this time," the joint statement reads, according to People magazine.
Sources close to the couple told TMZ that Thicke is also concerned for their son, Julian.
"Robin is really concerned about their son, Julian Fuego, 3," a source said, according to TMZ. "He does not want him raised in two separate homes."
The singer took to his personal website to thank his fans for supporting him during the turbulent times.
"I want to thank everyone for the well wishes these last few days," Thicke wrote. "My fans mean everything to me. I'm looking forward to getting back on out on the road and performing in Washington DC this Thursday, and the rest of the tour. Looking forward to seeing everyone out there!"
Although some media outlets questioned if 21-year-old singer Miley Cyrus was to blame for the split, Thicke told TMZ that was not the case. Cyrus caused a stir during her MTV Video Music Awards performance, when she stripped down to a nude bikini while gyrating on married R&B singer Thicke, 36.
Thicke's mother, Gloria Loring, previously spoke out against her son's performance with Cyrus. Loring thought Cyrus missed the mark she was trying to reach with her performance.
"I don't understand what Miley Cyrus is trying to do," the former Days of Our Lives actress told Yahoo omg! Insider. "I think she's misbegotten in this attempt of hers. And I think it was not beneficial."
While Thicke recently told TMZ that he would not change his performance style, he also previously said he would never perform with Cyrus again.
"Oh no, no no no," he said of performing with Cyrus again while on Britain's Chatty Man last year. "No no, definitely no, definitely not."
