Samsung Galaxy Nexus Launch Confirmed by Verizon for December
Verizon recently confirmed to Business Insider that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus would launch on the carrier sometime in December, still allowing the device to arrive in time for late Christmas shoppers.
Samsung originally announced a November release at the Galaxy Nexus unveiling; however, the month is almost over and no news of the smartphone’s launch has come from Verizon. The company is expected to offer the device as an exclusive.
Samsung kept its promise in other places, such as Europe. The smartphone landed there, and it was reviewed by various technology publications.
Business Insider claimed it received the official word from Verizon earlier this week confirming a December release for the smartphone.
The Galaxy Nexus marks the beginning of a new Android platform called Ice Cream Sandwich. The software received the same amount, or even more, hype than the actual device.
The smartphone sports some impressive specifications, including a 4.65-inch Super AMOLED display, a unique curved design, compatibility with LTE and HSPA+ networks and a dual-core 1.2 GHz processor.
Samsung said at the smartphone's unveiling that its Super AMOLED color spectrum exceeds that of a high definition television.
It shows video in 16:9 widescreen ratios so watching movies on the device is transformed into a portable theatrical experience.
It also features near field communications that allows the device to transfer media and data by simply touching another device with the same capabilities.
Samsung also described the device as “feeling weightless” thanks to its thin design and appearance.
It includes a 5-megapixel camera that can film video in 1080p HD quality and is equipped with a hyperskin backing making the device slip-resistant.
The smartphone also has a 0.01 millisecond response time that makes performing tasks quick and efficient on the Galaxy Nexus.
