Samsung Galaxy S2 Ice Cream Sandwich Update Status List Released
Samsung has released a list of every country where the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade is now available for download.
The company first announced that it would begin rolling out the update in various countries throughout Europe last month via press release.
"The upgrade will begin in European countries including Poland, Hungary, and Sweden, as well as Korea today and gradually roll out to other markets," added the company.
The press release also states that other mobile devices including the Galaxy Note, Galaxy S2 LTE, Galaxy R, Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus 7.7, 8.9, and 10.1 will all receive the Android 4.0 upgrade very soon following the Galaxy S2.
There is still no confirmation for when the Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade will be released for the Galaxy S2 in the U.S.
The demand seems to be the highest for the device that Samsung branded the "iPhone killer" shortly before its release back in 2011.
Samsung also revealed the status of its Android 2.3 Gingerbread updates in the press release.
"Samsung Electronics has completed upgrading the Galaxy devices to Gingerbread last year by providing software upgrades to both Froyo and Gingerbread," said Samsung. "With the ICS upgrade, Samsung Electronics has solidified its position as the leader of Android devices."
The company also announced firmware updates for Gingerbread devices including the Galaxy S, Galaxy Tab 7", Galaxy S Plus, Galaxy S SCL (Super Clear LCD), and Galaxy W that will roll out at the end of this month.
"We expect that our customers will enjoy an enhanced experience with the Galaxy device through this upgrade. Samsung is committed to our customer needs," said J.K. Shin, President of IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics.
The upgrade release dates will vary on different carriers and with different variants of the smartphone.
