Samsung Galaxy S2 Ice Cream Sandwich Upgrade in U.S. Delayed by Google?

Google is the main culprit for the delay of the Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade coming to some of the more popular devices in the U.S., according to AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson.

In a recent interview, he placed the blame on Google for taking so long to roll out updates for many of the carrier's devices, including the popular Samsung Galaxy S3.

"Google determines what platform gets the newest releases and when," said Stephenson. "A lot of times, that's a negotiated arrangement and that's something we work at hard. We know that's important to our customers. That's kind of an ambiguous answer because I can't give you a direct answer in this setting."

9to5 Google stated that it previously believed that the order of tasks for getting an update ready to be released took place as follows.

First Google open sources the new Android OS, as reported by the site. Then, the manufacturers get the OS working on their devices with drivers and overlays. For the last step, the carriers certify the OS on those devices.

According to Stephenson, the process is a bit different with Google being in control of the situation.

However, his statements were a little unclear leading the 9to5 Google to believe that the steps in the process are still a bit up in the air.

Stephenson also mentioned Windows OS and stated that he has been using it for month and truly enjoys it. He also said that Android needs to work on some security issues.

The Samsung Galaxy S2 is expected to receive the Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich update in the U.S. within the next few months.

The upgrade for the phone has already rolled out in many places overseas.
