Samsung Galaxy S3 vs. Samsung Galaxy S2

Now, this is not much of a match-up since the Samsung Galaxy S3 is the successor to the S2, however, a good comparison could be helpful to those wondering if it is worth upgrading when the S3 is released.

Even though all of the specifications on the S3 are just rumors, there is a good chance that most of these features will end up on the device.

Here is a quick comparison of the Samsung Galaxy S2 and the rumored specs on the upcoming Galaxy S3.

Speed

Most versions of the Samsung Galaxy S2 feature a dual-core 1.2GHz processor with others including a 1.5GHz chip. The Samsung Galaxy S3 is rumored to feature a quad-core chip. This would give the device a significant speed boost. But is it necessary? The Galaxy S2 is super fast as it is. Sure it is always good to increase speed, but the quad-core chip may not be a selling point for many consumers. However, tech enthusiasts will probably flock to the device.

Design

The Galaxy S2 features a plastic frame that is sturdy yet plain looking. It pales in comparison to some devices released by HTC that feature metal frames. However, it makes for a light phone. The Galaxy S3 is rumored to be designed with a ceramic frame. That sounds odd to many, and one cannot be sure what this will look or feel like exactly. However, hopefully Samsung will impress consumers if this rumor proves to be true.

4G LTE

It is all but confirmed that the Samsung Galaxy S3 will be a 4G LTE device. There were variants of the S2 released that were compatible with the network including the Skyrocket on AT&T. For customers who own the LTE S2's, having the network on the S3 will not be a selling point.

Display

The Galaxy S3 is rumored to feature a display that will redefine HD touchscreens on mobile devices. Samsung is expected to eliminate the use of the PenTile Matrix that takes away from the screen's appearance and employ better technology when it comes to colors. The display on the device is said to have a 1280x800 resolution and will measure in at 4.7-inches. This is definitely a selling point for the S3 and the S2's display pales in comparison to these rumored specs.

Conclusion

Sure there are plenty of other attractive rumored features for the S3 including wireless charging and NFC, however it seems that a true HD display would be the main selling point for the device against those who already own an S2. The Samsung Galaxy S3 is expected to be unveiled on May 3 in London at Samsung's "Come and meet the next Galaxy" event.
