Samsung to Introduce 2 New 64-bit Processors at this Year's CES
Samsung is expected to introduce 2 new 64-bit Exynos processors at this year's Consumer Electronics Show.
The company will hold an Exynos-related press conference at CES which starts on Jan. 7 in Las Vegas. Two new processors will debut there with both being octa-core 64-bit chipsets named the Exynos S and Exynos 6, according to a report from MyDrivers.
The Exynos 6 will be based on ARM's Cortex- A50 architecture. It will have four Cortex-A57 performance-focused cores and 4 Cortex- A53 battery-friendly cores. They should provide for an experience that pushes power up and lowers it when needed correlating with the user's activities.
The Exynos S will employ Samsung's own core designs and it will also be 64-bit. It could also end up being octa-core, but that has not been confirmed yet.
Samsung is following the trend set by Apple last year who introduced the world's first 64-bit smartphone with the iPhone 5S. Samsung will most likely use these chips to power their next-gen flagship handsets which will most likely be the Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4.
Apple's next-gen smartphone will also feature a processor that can match up to these behemoths about to be introduced by Samsung. Other companies such as LG and HTC will also have to play catch-up.
Samsung's new devices are also expected to feature displays with 4k resolution and exteriors constructed from metal. The Korean giant missed the mark with the Galaxy S4 in terms of design by sticking to the plastic backing found on its predecessors. The Galaxy Note 3 featured a slightly improved exterior with its leather-like plastic backing.
A new metal exterior and 64-bit processors could ensure Samsung's success for next year if the company is able to offer a product that is innovative enough to catch the consumers eye.
