Samsung's Nexus Prime Release Date: Footage Emerges (VIDEO)
Leaked video footage of the upcoming "Nexus Prime" smartphone from Samsung has surfaced.
This brand new smartphone (set to be powered by Google's "Ice Cream Sandwich" operating system) can be seen in the accompanying video.
The video displays a lot of the smartphone's features and operating system capabilities. The videographer can be seen briefly testing out the camera, although it's not clear how good its picture quality is and exactly what level of megapixellage is contained on the smartphone. As the person in the video plays around with the "Nexus Prime", the software features of it can also be seen.
The Google search bar embedded into the top of the home screen is still present, but it appears to have a white outline that makes it easier to find. When browsing between apps in the smartphone's "App Drawer", new animations for this action occur.
Hard buttons for selecting options seem to be absent from the phone, since the capacitive buttons for home, menu, back and search are replaced by software buttons at the bottom.
A brand new lockscreen is shown in the video as well. The "ring" based lockscreen is similar to Honeycomb’s version, but with a new twist. The video displays a lock icon on the side once the phone is turned back on. This could indicate that users will have to use this button for locking and unlocking purposes.
The styling of the "Nexus Prime" seems to have changed its color scheme from green to blue.
The leaked specs for the smartphone are as follows: a 4.65 inch 720p HD Super AMOLED display, 32GB of internal storage, 1GB of RAM, a 1.2GHz TI OMAP4 dual-core processor, a 5 megapixel rear camera along with a 1.3 inch front camera, 1080p HD video capture, NFC and more.
Samsung put up a teaser video this past week. Analysts believe that the video was promoting the debut of the "Nexus Prime" and "Ice Cream Sandwich."
Google and Samsung recently canceled its joint press conference that would have revealed the new smartphone and operating system. It was scheduled for Oct.11.
