'Saturday Night Live,' Big Bird Declines to Comment on Mitt Romney (VIDEO)
Seasame Street's own Big Bird declined to make comment on Mitt Romney's statement regarding defunding PBS over the weekend.
Big Bird decided to keep his beak sealed when it comes to the issue of Mitt Romney claiming he would pull the plug on PBS. Romney announced his plans Wednesday during the first of three presidential debates.
"I'm going to stop the subsidy to PBS," Romney stated. "I like PBS, I love Big Bird. But I'm not keeping spending money on things to borrow money from China, to pay for it."
Big Bird walked on stage to a loud applause before he sat down with host Seth Meyers for the "Weekend Update."
"Thanks for having me Mr. Meyers," the yellow feathered star said with a yawn, adding, "It's seven hours past my bedtime."
When asked how he got word about Romney's statement, Big Bird admitted: "I got a million tweets." Although not from Twitter of course. "No I'm a bird, tweeting is how we talk."
Although he did not appear to be on Twitter himself, Big Bird did acknowledge that he was aware of what Twitter was.
"I know what a Twitter is, Sesame street has Wi-Fi, you know," the puppet explained.
The bird lamented over the fact that he once walked down the streets unnoticed and was now getting more attention due to Romney's name drop during his speech.
"I was walking down the street and I felt like everybody recognized me," he said.
But despite his newfound fame and increased voice in the public sphere, the bird was not interested in commenting on politics because he didn't want to "ruffle any feathers."
He did however, leave with a political joke.
"Who like debates?" Big Bird began. "The fishes!"
"It's a thinker," the children's character joked.
