'Scandal' Season 5 Premiere spoilers, plot news: Episode 1 - Olivia uniting with Fitz – but is it for keeps?
For the past four seasons, "Scandal" has been setting the stage for the culmination of the scandalous relationship between Olivia Pope and President Fitzgerald "Fitz" Grant. Arguably TV's most hottest couple, fans want Olivia and Fitz to be a couple. So will the new season see Olivia becomes First Lady? Will "Scandal" end after Fitz completes his term?
Last season ended with a kiss at the balcony of the illustrious White House. This scandalous kiss is between Olivia Pope, played by Kerry Washington, and President Fitzgerald Grant, played by Tony Goldwyn. Before this kiss, Fitz had parted acrimoniously with his wife, First Lady Mellie Grant, when he comes to know that she was involved in the death of a busload of jurors in the B613 trial.
The premiere episode of Season 5 of "Scandal" will come straight to the events after this finale. Olivia and Fitz are finally united as Mellie seems to be out of the way. Jake, Olivia's rejected admirer, may have come to terms that Olivia loves Fitz and may go away, but not for long.
So what will everybody be doing in this season? Showrunner Shonda Rhimes has revealed in previous interviews that the main focus of "Scandal" has always been the Olivia-Fitz relationship and the season will play out the relationship as the end game. Rhimes has also revealed that "Scandal" may finish off after Fitz completes his term and cannot be a long running series like "Grey's Anatomy"
But before bringing the scandal to an end, the series may have to tie all the loose ends. The tagline "At Last" hints at Olivia-Fitz coming together. So will Olivia become First Lady or will she be the first mistress to enter the White House? With Fitz divorcing Mellie, Olivia becoming First Lady is a possibility. About Jake, Shonda Rhimes said to Entertainment Weekly that "Jake goes on a journey that might destroy everything." Olivia's father is sure to come out of jail and wreck havoc upon his enemies.
Season 5 of "Scandal" airs on Thursdays from September 24 on ABC.
