Sean Hannity Gives Obamacare Operator $25,000 After She Was Fired Talking With Media
Sean Hannity is making up for contributing to the firing of an operator for the health insurance exchange after he called in to see how easy it would be to sign up for health insurance over the phone.
During his radio show on Monday Hannity called the insurance exchange hotline and spoke with Erling Davis, a mother of two, who honestly answered Hannity's questions for about 10 minutes.
Recent reports showed that Davis was notified that her employment was being terminated on Tuesday after her boss told her that operators were not allowed to talk with members of the media.
"First of all, I'm very sorry that you had to go through that. Especially because you were really nice, you were very kind, you were very honest, and I don't want you to have to pay a price just for taking our phone call and their being punitive in some way, so I want to help you out here," Hannity told Davis on his television show on Thursday.
Feeling compelled to help the now out of work mother Hannity, who makes a reported $25 million a year, said that he would gift her $25,000 – a year's salary tax-free.
"That's a year's salary tax free. So you don't have to pay taxes on that money," Hannity said. "Check with your accountant though, or check with your financial guy or whoever you talk to, whoever does your taxes, H&R, whatever."
Davis, obviously grateful for the act, expressed her thanks to Hannity's act of goodwill.
"I thank God for you and your crew and everybody that's listening," she said. "This is really a blessing, I wasn't expecting all of this."
Hannity also said that he would help her find another job after describing what he thought was an unfair termination.
"It seems unfair to me. Do you feel that they treated you unfairly? I kind of do," Hannity said.
