Selena Gomez, Austin Mahone Dating Rumors False; Singer 'Hung Up on Bieber'?
Selena Gomez and Austin Mahone are reportedly not dating despite reports stating otherwise, and sources claim she is still seeing her ex-boyfriend, Justin Bieber.
The former Disney star, 21, split with Bieber, 19, in May and pop star Taylor Swift, 23, allegedly put her in contact with Mahone, 17, with the hope that they would develop a romantic connection. While the pair appeared to be happy and relaxed during a chat backstage at the MTV VMAs in August, a source says Gomez and Mahone are just good friends.
"A relationship between her and Austin is not happening. They see each other at different events quite often but in no way have a relationship brewing," a source told HollywoodLife.com.
"As much as they would make a cute couple, its currently not happening. She is focused on her career and hung up on Justin and the aftermath of their strained relationship," the source explained.
Swift, who has been best friends with Gomez for years, reportedly hoped Gomez would date Mahone because she does not like Bieber. The "Heartbreaker" singer reportedly broke Gomez's heart in January and Swift helped the "Spring Breakers" actress recover.
"Taylor loves Austin. She thinks he's adorable and knows that Justin is threatened by him. Getting him to hang out with Selena was her idea," a source said previously.
"It's no secret she's not a fan of Justin anymore, so it seems pretty obvious why she'd want to push Austin and Selena together. Plus, Austin is the nicest guy," the insider continued. "He's so genuine — what you see is what you get. He doesn't party, he's humble and he's not taking any of this for granted."
Despite Swift's efforts, Gomez reportedly cannot let Bieber, who she began dating in 2011, go, with a source revealing she believes he may be her one true love.
"She's very stubborn when it comes to Justin. She's got this idea that he's 'The One' for her and that they'll live happily ever after," the source said. "She's not ready to let go, and who knows, she could be right."
